How we love our neighbors…
Food and Basic Needs.
There is hunger in Puerto Rico.
Families lacking sufficient nutritious food are not merely "poor" or "lazy." A variety of circumstances, including the aftermath of hurricanes, health problems, low income, single parenting, and other factors, can lead people to seek assistance.
What we offer:
Events as common as a car breakdown, illness, divorce, death, or job loss can wreak havoc on a carefully balanced budget. In times like these, Family Support Services offer emergency assistance in the following areas:
FIRST RESPONSE ASSISTANCE: We provide clothing and home goods to individuals and families in need. Qualifying families can receive a monthly supply of perishable and non-perishable food items, enabling them to stretch their dollars further and allocate their resources to other essential needs.
SMALL ANGELS PROGRAM: We provide new parents with car seats, cribs, and other essential items to ensure newborns have a clean and healthy beginning to life.
LA COCINA CALIENTE (COMMUNITY KITCHEN): Constant distribution on the West Coast ensures the provision of daily hot and healthy meals. In times of emergency and distress, we provide warm meals and groceries to families within the West Coast communities.
THE SMILE BANK: We acknowledge the psychological challenges faced in Puerto Rico and commit to deploying counselors and psychologists to support those engaged in the ongoing fight for improved mental health.
Health and Psychological Clinics
Natural disasters, such as Hurricane Maria and recent earthquakes, expose women, children, and the elderly to a different kind of storm, heightening their vulnerability to various dangers. These include complications during pregnancy and childbirth, the need for oxygen for newborns and the elderly, medication shortages, and more. In response, For Such a Time as This has established health and psychological clinics in the mountainous regions of Puerto Rico, serving over 600 families.
Educational & Relief Community Center
Our 2022-2023 goal is to restore an abandoned building that For Such a Time as This will utilize to impact and provide free empowerment programs, educational services and disaster relief services to a community of 6,000+ families affected by Hurricane Maria.

Challenge
As a result of Hurricane Maria, many people lack employment and economic resources, which has resulted in extreme need and poverty in the communities. The long-term economic impact of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico has estimates of up to 20% decline in economic activity, with up to a cumulative $100 billion in lost economic output. The humanitarian crisis in the aftermath of the Hurricane has led to over 160,000 people who have left the island for the states.
Solution
For Such a Time as This will provide programs to empower the individuals and communities to work in a sustainable way. Through educational programs and trainings the people will gain knowledge in different areas to work and sustain their families. At the same time, For Such a Time as This will provide the educational programs, training, and services free for the communities.
Long-Term Impact
The Educational and Relief Center will provide constant education, support, and training to help individuals and families not only rise out of poverty but to develop the skills and knowledge to be self-sufficient. In the event of any future natural disaster, the Educational and Relief Center will be ready to help a community of 600+ families.
